Most of us just call it Disney, but the full name is The Walt Disney Company, an American entertainment giant with its home base at the Walt Disney Studios complex in Burbank, California. It all started back on 16 October 1923, when brothers Walt and Roy Oliver Disney set up a modest animation studio called the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. Over the years it went by a couple of different names (Walt Disney Studio and Walt Disney Productions) before finally settling on the name we know today back in 1986. Disney made its real mark on the world in 1928 with a little short film called Steamboat Willie. It was a genuinely groundbreaking moment, as the film used synchronised sound to become the first cartoon to have sound added in post-production. It also introduced the world to Mickey Mouse, who went on to become the beloved face and mascot of the entire Disney brand.
