Senior Staff Founding Engineer
Be the technical co-builder of Flynt. Own our architecture, shape our engineering culture, and build the systems that will connect thousands of professionals.
Shape the world's favourite professional network
In an increasingly remote world, career development can feel isolating. We believe the best career moments come from the right conversation at the right time. Flynt matches professionals for meaningful monthly calls. One match, one call, real connection. We're building a world where no one has to navigate their career alone.
Our vision is ambitious: to support every facet of professional development, for every kind of professional. Entrepreneurs, tech employees, teachers, healthcare workers, and beyond. We currently have members across the UK, USA, the Netherlands, and other parts of Europe.
Early stage
We're transitioning from founder-built to founder-led. The people we hire now will fundamentally shape everything that comes next.
Small team
Two founders, a growing community of hundreds of community members, and space for a handful of people who want to build with us. That's it.
High leverage
Every decision matters. Every line of code ships to real users. Every idea has the potential to change the product's direction.
About the role
You'll be the first engineering hire at Flynt, working directly with the founders as a technical co-builder. This isn't a role where you execute on someone else's vision. You'll shape the technical direction, make architecture decisions that define the company's future, and own the systems you build from conception to production.
We're looking for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who thrives in ambiguity, can move fast without sacrificing quality, and genuinely cares about the craft of building software. You'll be shipping code that real users interact with every day, with feedback loops measured in hours rather than quarters. As we grow, your influence will extend beyond code to shaping how we build and who we build with.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end feature development from design through deployment
- Make foundational architecture decisions that will scale with the company
- Build and maintain our matching algorithm and scheduling systems
- Explore and integrate AI capabilities to enhance how we connect people
- Ship production code daily. We move fast and iterate constantly
- Work directly with users to understand problems and validate solutions
- Establish engineering culture, processes, and standards as we grow
- Collaborate closely with founders on business strategy, product direction, and priorities
What we're looking for
- Entrepreneurial drive. You think like an owner, not an employee
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, React, and Next.js (our core stack)
- Experience with PostgreSQL and real-time systems (we use Supabase)
- Genuine interest in AI and building AI-native products
- Track record of owning and shipping products, not just features
- Strategic thinking about technical direction and how it enables business growth
- Strong opinions, loosely held. You know what good looks like but stay curious
- Comfort with ambiguity and the chaos of early-stage building
- Vision for what great engineering culture looks like as we scale
- Based in the UK or willing to work UK-aligned hours
This role isn't for you if
- You want clear specifications and well-defined tickets. We're still figuring things out
- You need a complete design before you start building. We design as we go
- You prefer specialisation over breadth. You'll wear many hats here
- You struggle to articulate complex ideas clearly. Communication is essential here
- You need stability and predictability. Early stage means constant change
- You're optimising for short-term gains over long-term ownership. The real opportunity here is equity
- You want to manage people soon. This is a hands-on building role
You'll own part of Flynt
We believe in meaningful ownership. You'll receive a significant equity stake because we want everyone who joins early to share in the upside we're building together. This is a rare opportunity to be a true owner of something from the ground up.
We're flexible on structure and happy to discuss what works for you.
