What our first matches say about using Flynt

We’ve been running our first Flynt matches in August. It’s a wonderful feeling to see real people get value from using Flynt, whilst learning from them.

TL;DR: Flynt's first Alpha matches were a huge success! Both people showed up on time, found real value in their conversations, and were keen to keep in touch. The core matching works, but their feedback showed we need better follow-up (next steps after your match). We're now building a smarter post-match experience and getting ready to scale our Alpha with a lot more users.
When we launched Flynt’s Alpha programme, our vision was simple: create one meaningful match at a time and prove that deep, high-quality professional connections can be designed with intention. Now that the first matches have taken place, we’re excited to share what we’ve learned—and what it says about the future of Flynt.
The great news is that Flynt is working well
As we’ve been building the product, we’ve known that each Flynt match feels like a little leap of faith. Will each match actually turn up? Will they click? Will they walk away feeling like it was time well spent? Our first two Alpha users just proved the answer is a massive yes:
- Both matches happened exactly when they were supposed to
- Everyone showed up bang on time
- Both people said the conversation was genuinely valuable and totally worth their time
- They both wanted to stay in touch and after their chat
This felt like a "yes, we're onto something!" moment. As we learn from each match, our theory is that it will be easier and easier to make sure each of your matches feels worth your time.
Meet our first matches: Amie and Oscar
Our very first Alpha match brought together Amie Kabia, Staff Product Researcher at Strava, and Oscar Morton, Senior Product Designer at Let's Do This. After their chat, we were curious (with some nervousness) to hear what they really thought — not just about the match itself, but about the whole Flynt experience. Their honest feedback has been encouraging and it’s showing us what's working brilliantly and where we can do better.
What Amie told us — Staff Product Researcher, Strava
Amie loved the match but spotted exactly where we could help people even more:
We ended the call wondering what the next steps were… Might be nice to have an email reminder after a couple of days, or even straight away with suggested next steps — give feedback, swap details etc. Also maybe a reminder email or notification the day of the call (people should remember, but you know how we all get busy).
She's absolutely right — a great conversation deserves great follow-through. To be honest, we already built this, but learned of a small bug where the emails didn’t fire through after the meeting took place. We've fixed this already for our next matches.
What Oscar shared — Senior Product Designer, Let's Do This
Oscar's feedback made us smile (and frantically take notes). He loved the anticipation:
The countdown and reveal gave me a small rush.
And confirmed that the heart of Flynt works beautifully:
The match quality was high, the conversation wasn't awkward, and it worked.
But then he hit us with the truth bomb we needed to hear:
After the call, it falls off a cliff. What do I do now?
Oscar's suggestions were spot-on:
- Much richer bios — He wanted to know more about his match before their meeting. While we have people’s bios, profile preferences, LinkedIn profiles, we know there’s more we can do over time as we learn more about what people want to know about their matches
- Smarter conversation starters – We use AI to generate conversation starters based on the two people that were matched, Oscar felt these were pretty basic (which is fair). The reality is we don’t yet know what are great questions to suggest as starting points between two people who have never met each other. But, we’re learning and we know the answer is different for each match, which is why we’re using AI
- Clearer next steps — Similar to Amie’s feedback a follow-up email could've been helpful, ways to rate the experience (which already exists, but didn’t work on the day), maybe even some fun community events. Some ideas we already had and others things we want to do in the future
Flynt is being built for our community with their feedback shaping every feature we ship
We’re super grateful to Amie and Oscar for having taken part in our Alpha and we couldn't have asked for better feedback. Amie and Oscar confirmed Flynt's matching is showing signs of working really well — which is one of the hardest parts to get right, both in that first match and to maintain the quality at scale. Equally, they helped us know exactly where we can continue to make the whole experience even more brilliant.
What we're doing next
Related to Amie and Oscar's brilliant feedback, here's what's coming:
- Thoughtful follow-up — We’ve shipped this as of this week, with gentle reminders, feedback opportunities and clearer ways to stay connected after if you want to
- Much richer profiles — We have some ideas here and will be testing out a few things in the next couple of weeks, we’ll share more as soon as we can
- Cleverer conversation starters — They should feel personal to each match, but it will take us some time and a few matches to know if we’re nailing it
This is just the beginning! We're getting ready to open Flynt up to loads more matches and many more brilliant people — growing from these first Alpha conversations into a community where fantastic professional connections happen every month.
The big picture
Our first Alpha matches taught us two crucial things:
- Flynt genuinely works — We’re proving we can connect the right people and help them find real value in the connections we're creating, part of the challenge now is proving we can do that with multiple people, across multiple fields and sustain it every month
- We're just getting started — There’s so much more magic we can build around each match, we’re brimming with ideas and Ivan and I are both very excited to see how our community continues to shape Flynt for the better
